On Track for Success- The Beryl Companies Collects School Supplies for the Community Enrichment Center

(DALLAS, TX) ----- Freshly sharpened pencils, new spiral notebooks, and unopened boxes of crayons- yes, a new school year is back in session with new teachers and friends. Starting the year off on the right foot can be costly, especially for low-income families who are already on a tight budget. To help mitigate the costs, The Beryl Companies (Beryl) partnered with The Community Enrichment Center (CEC) in North Richland Hills for the 6th year in a row to provide school supplies for underprivileged students in Tarrant County.  Amy Walker, Development Director at The Community Enrichment Center, recognized Beryl, stating, “Each year our partnership with Beryl continues to grow and the CEC is so grateful for the enthusiasm and dedication its employees have for serving others.”

The generosity that the 300-plus Beryl employees demonstrated for the school supply drive contest with the theme, “Start ‘em off on the Right Track,” illustrates the giving nature of the company. Each department at Beryl banded together and constructed train cars filled to the brim with supplies, totaling over $3,000, including backpacks, binders, notebooks, pens, pencils, tissues, glue, crayons, and all other back-to-school essentials. The creativity and time spent to build each train car was unfathomable, and included themes such as “Thomas the Train,” lunchboxes, castles, and more.  Twenty Beryl employees delivered the supplies and a few select train cars to the CEC and volunteered at its annual back-to-school carnival, which was held August 22, 2009. The purpose of the carnival was to kickoff the school year with fun activities and games as well as give away school supplies to over 200 children in the Adopt-A-Family program, a two-year program that provides stable housing and life skills to working homeless families in Tarrant County.  “Beryl is proud to help collect school supplies so that students can excel in school. At this year’s carnival, Beryl team members made sure that each child started on the right track. They jumped right in to collect school supplies and they coordinated setting up the school supply area to make sure that each family received their items,” said Lance Shipp, Beryl’s Chief Operating Officer and a current member of the board of directors for the Community Enrichment Center, where he formerly served as chairman.

In addition to being the CEC’s largest school supply contributor each year, Beryl also sponsors up to 10 children in its Adopt-A-Family program to supply all back-to-school needs, which includes new clothes and shoes.
